Venue Description:

Situated in the Hamlet of Stone Chair near Shelf, The Duke of York is one of the stopping off points on many published walks. The actual Stone Chair erected in 1737 is opposite the front entrance of the Inn. Built in the early 1800’s the ‘Duke’ boasts a grade 2 listed façade with mullioned windows & ivy covered walls the original buildings were a house & barn, the barn entrance now features a large frosted window, these were combined into the present Inn sometime during the 1900’s . The Restaurant which boasts an open fire was once the barn & the house is now an open plan bar & dining area. A full lunch and evening meal menu is available Thursday through Sunday. The pub is disabled access friendly and has ample free off-road parking.
