CSR & mobility

Easily estimate the carbon impact of your participants’ trips!

At a corporate event, most of the emissions are decided before anyone arrives: in how participants travel. Enter where they set off from, compare the venues on your shortlist, and see what each option costs in kg of CO₂e.

  • Real starting points: any address, station or city, with the number of participants concerned.
  • One footprint per venue, broken down journey by journey, adjustable mode by mode.
  • Public emission factors, taken from ADEME's Base Carbone database.

Your comparator

Three steps: your project, your participants’ starting points, then the venue comparison.

Open a project to start comparing

The comparator works from an event project: that is what holds the number of participants, the dates and the venues you shortlist.

  1. Describe your event

Event type, number of participants, dates, target region. It takes two minutes, and your client area opens straight away.

  2. Set your starting points

Your participants do not all set off from the same place: enter each origin and how many people travel from it.

  3. Compare the venues

For every venue in your selection, the comparator works out the travel footprint of the whole group, there and back.

How is the travel footprint calculated?

The calculation starts from your participants, not from a national average.

  1. One itinerary per starting point

For every origin and every candidate venue, an itinerary is computed: distance, duration and a plausible mode of transport - train if there is a station nearby, car otherwise, public transport in the city.

  2. One emission factor per mode

The distance is multiplied by the emission factor of the chosen mode. For cars and coaches the result also depends on the occupancy rate, which you set yourself.

  3. A total per venue, adjustable

Journeys are added up across all participants, then compared from one venue to another. You can force a mode of transport on a specific journey to reflect your travel policy.

Data and scope of the calculation

Where do these data come from?

This simulator reuses data from the Base Carbone. It is a public database of emission factors needed for a greenhouse-gas (GHG) assessment and, more broadly, for any carbon-accounting exercise.

What is or isn’t included in our estimate?

Direct emissions and the production and distribution of fuel and electricity are included. The construction of vehicles (cars, bikes, batteries, trains, planes, etc.) and infrastructure (roads, rails, airports, etc.) is not included.

Frequently asked questions about an event’s travel carbon footprint

What organisers ask us before choosing between two venues.

Is the carbon comparator free?

Yes. It is included in your Alfred Meeting client area, with no fee and no commitment, whether or not you go on to book a venue with us.

Which emissions are counted?

Only participant travel, between their starting points and the venue. Accommodation, catering, equipment and digital use are not part of this calculation: they belong to the event’s full carbon footprint.

Where do the emission factors come from?

From Base Carbone, ADEME’s public database of emission factors. Direct emissions are included, as well as the production and distribution of fuel and electricity; vehicle manufacturing is counted too (ADEME 2025 data, published on Impact CO2).

Do I need each participant’s exact address?

No. A starting point can be a city, a station or a company site, with the number of people travelling from it. The finer the breakdown, the closer the estimate gets to reality.

Can I impose a mode of transport?

Yes. By default the comparator picks the most plausible itinerary, but you can force a mode - train, chartered coach, car - per starting point or journey by journey, to reflect your travel policy.

How many venues can I compare?

As many as your selection holds. Venues added from the catalogue or suggested by your project manager appear automatically in step 3.

Can the result be used in a regulatory GHG report?

It is a decision-support estimate, built to choose between venues before booking. For a regulatory declaration, rely on the travel actually recorded after the event.
