Château de Mazan ****

Built in 1715, the Château de Mazan was the birthplace of the Marquis de Sade's father and uncle, the famous Abbé de Sade. The Marquis stayed there on many occasions. In 1772, he organised what would be the first Theatre Festival in France in the gardens. The Château remained the property of the de Sade family until 1850.

Conceived as an integral part of the Château, the gardens have regained their grandeur and elegance. A staircase has been built following the 18th-century tradition to provide easy access. In this perspective, a stone fire pot has been placed in the middle of a strolling garden where a few stone benches are waiting for visitors to contemplate the magnificent facade of the Château.
